Exam Preparation

The following is a list of exam preparations required for each procedure. Should you have any questions prior to your exam please contact any XRA Medical Imaging office with your inquiry and we will be happy to assist you.

We also encourage all patients to fill out the New Patient Registration Form prior to your first visit.

GI Series:
Nothing to eat or drink after midnight before your examination (including water).

BE (Barium Enema)

IVP (Kidney):
No solid food 4 hours prior to exam. You may take clear liquids and medication only.

Ultrasound:
Abdomen, RUQ, GB, Liver, Pancreas, Aorta
Nothing to eat or drink after midnight for morning appointments. For afternoon appointments, nothing to eat or drink 6hrs prior to the exam.

Pelvic or Bladder:
2 hours before exam drink 32 oz of water. Finish drinking water within the first hour. Do not void. Your bladder must be full to perform this exam.

Obstetric:
No preparation necessary for obstetric ultrasound.

Prostate (Endorectal):
3 hours prior to exam time take a Fleet Enema.

Renal, Thyroid, Breast, Scrotum, DVT:
No preparation necessary.

Mammography:
Wear no perfume, power or deodorant when coming in for an appointment.

CT Scan:

If your CT exam requires an intravenous injection , please do not eat or drink anything 1 hour prior to exam. Drink plenty of water leading up to the exam. No preparation is needed for any CT exams without intravenous contrast injection. 

Enterography:
If you are having an Enterography exams, this requires you to drink oral contrast. Nothing to eat or drink 4 hours prior to exam. You will arrive 1 hour and 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time to begin drinking as directed by XRA staff. 

Please call our office as soon as possible for a complete screening (performed by phone for all CT patients)

MRI:

Abdomen-Nothing to eat 4 hours prior to study
